What is Open GENIE ?

Open GENIE is a computer program aimed at providing scientists with access to their experimental data so that they may manipulate/correct the data as required and display the results in a meaningful format, usually in graphical form, see Data-Analysis-Functions.

GENIE is a generic name for a series of programs used for the analysis and display of data from the neutron scattering instruments at the UK's ISIS facility at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. For several years now, a stable VAX/VMS only version of the software (GENIE-V2) has been in use at the ISIS and at several scientific and commercial establishments world-wide.

Constant improvements in the capabilities of the neutron scattering instruments used at ISIS and also in the hardware and software available for data analysis have necessitated a re-write of GENIE. The new GENIE is known as Open GENIE to reflect the intention that the software be used on a wide variety of different computers and operating systems.
